My First Of Many

Twas several days into December, and on this Tuesday morn, I'm thinking about my friend's sister and if we could do porn...

I'm off work today. I'm a traffic coordinator at a construction site. Fancy name for a flagger.

I've been on that project for about seven months now. Seen a lot of fellow flaggers come and go, getting kicked off the job for myriad reasons. But I'm the one consistent person there.

The company I work for has several crews doing different jobs for the city of Houston such as concrete road repair and asphalt. Somehow, the company messed up those contracts and the workers on those crews are doing nothing and have been for about six weeks now.
They report to the warehouse every morning, hang around for two hours, get paid for it and leave. Comes out to about seventy hours a month.

They have certified flaggers on those crews as well. Last week, someone came up with the bright idea of swapping out days with flaggers on my crew on my job site allowing the out-of-work flaggers to earn some extra hours.

So from now on, I get one day off per week. This is going to cost me about $750 a month until they get their contact conundrum resolved. I'm not happy about it. At all.

I do have compassion and empathy towards my fellow employees, but this is money. I'm not the one that fucked up the contracts. But I am the one that's called on for special projects and I keep my posts running smooth. They've actually scheduled some of the people that have been kicked off the job site to go back down there and work.

It's not cheap to live in the music scene outside of my professional life. I party hard. I have studio time coming up, airfare to pay out for a headlining act to come play in March, trying to buy a car and am looking for a new place to live. Taking $750 out of my pocket this and possibly next month couldn't come at a worse time.

Times like these make me consider a criminal lifestyle. But the possible layoff from that job could be for 25 years next time. So I must ensure working for others in the interim.

Something's gotta give...
